About Mattingly
MLV's History

MLV's History

Mattingly Low Vision is the only company in the low vision industry that is founded on the practical knowledge and experience of a low vision practitioner. For almost 40 years, Bill Mattingly was involved in low vision in various capacities – practitioner, teacher, author, and business owner.

Founded by Bill in 2007, MLV grew to include his son, Sean Mattingly, in 2011 and Sean’s wife, Julie Mattingly, in 2013. Trained by Bill, Sean now leads the company and holds an MBA from Point Loma Nazarene University and a BA in Business from California State University San Marcos. Julie manages the company’s programming and people and holds a Master of Education from UCLA and a BA in Human Development. Our team also includes Elena King, a CLVT who worked with Bill for over 20 years. Elena is available to provide advice and consultation to our customers at no charge.

When Bill passed in 2015, a memorial scholarship was created in his name. First awarded in 2016, this annual scholarship provides funding for optometry students who express an interest in the field and low vision residents actively training and conducting research related to low vision. New Product Development - We are actively involved in research and product development to create better low vision products for our customers.

Strategic Acquisitions - Over the last decade, we’ve acquired 3 other low vision companies and we will continue to pursue growth that compliments and expands our brand and product portfolio.

Collaborative Communication - We value customer feedback and welcome questions, ideas and what’s working (and not working) for you! Because we design and manufacture most of the products we sell, we appreciate your thoughtful input to make effective improvements to our products.
